Visitation

If your pet is ever hospitalized, you are welcome and encouraged to visit. In most cases, we will bring your pet to one of our examination rooms where you can sit, take your time, and both of you will be more comfortable. Be sure to ask us ahead of time if you should bring some favourite foods, toys or blankets with you. You should also find out if a cancer care team member will be present in the hospital at the time of your visit, so that we can answer any questions you may have. If you come at a time when we are unable to meet with you in person, just write down your questions so that you can ask us later.

Occasionally, one of our patients is so critically ill that we do not feel it is safe to move them from our Intensive Care Unit for a visit. In cases like this, we will accompany you into the ICU for a short visit. ICU visits must always be scheduled in advance so that a member of the cancer care team is available to stay with you. Please understand that if an emergency situation develops in the ICU with another patient, we may have to cut your visit short.

All chemotherapy treatments at WVCC are administered on a day-patient basis, so it is not feasible to have the owner present during therapy. Rest assured that your pet will be gently and expertly restrained by the oncology technicians and technician assistants.
